Iguanodon: (Iguanodon)

Physical Characteristics
The Iguanodon was a dinosaur that had a horny, toothless beak and tightly-packed cheek teeth. On each hand, Iguanodon had four fingers plus a conical thumb spike on each hand that was perpendicular to the other fingers. The thumb spikes may have been used for defence or for obtaining food, and ranged from between 2 to 6 inches long. Iguanodon had a flat, stiff tail and three-toed hind feet with hoof-like claws, and its legs were much larger than its arms. Iguanodon grew up to 30 ft long, 9ft high and weighed between 4 and 5 tons.

Habitat
Iguanodon lived during the early Cretaceous period, about 135 to 125 million years ago, and fossils have been found on all continents except Antarctica.

Behaviour
Iguanodon are thought to have been a herding animal, suggested by fossils in bonebeds found in Belgium. In these bonebeds, dozens of Iguanodon fossils were found together, suggesting that they may have lived in groups.

Diet
Iguanodons were herbivores, and probably ate cycads, conifers, and ginkgos.
